For me, photography solves a three part equation that brings happiness to my life.

First and foremost, photography gets me outdoors. Being outdoors and in nature helps to clear my mind, it’s therapy and I need it in my life.

Secondly, there’s the wildlife. Seeing any sort of wildlife is special and should not be taken for granted. It doesn’t matter if it’s a robin in the garden, a spider waiting patiently on its web, a beautiful wild flower in a meadow, or a deer passing by in the woods, all wildlife encounters are special. These encounters are even more special when you have taken the time to get closer to the wildlife without disturbing it. The feeling of calm and joy I get when wildlife is close by is the ultimate drug and I forget that the rest of the world exists. It’s just me and the wildlife in that moment.

The final part of the equation is the photography. The camera is my tool for recording those special, privileged encounters with wildlife. There is a magic and rush that comes with pressing the shutter button when your sought after subject fills the viewfinder, and it becomes an addiction. Sometimes the addiction can be frustrating, because it cannot always be fuelled. But this is a healthy addiction. And when it can’t be fuelled, I am at least dreaming of those days when it can. I love the outdoors. I love wildlife. I love photography.

I believe that the picture you take is more important than the kit you use, but there is no doubt that good kit makes a difference in getting that picture. So I use OM-System cameras and lenses which gives me stunning image quality in a light and compact set-up that is packed with the latest technology and incredible weather sealing which means I can keep shooting when the elements turn against me.
