One thing that has always surprised me about kingfishers is that there are so many people that haven’t seen one. Surely everybody would make an effort to see one, just look at them!

I never grow tired of seeing them, even if it’s just blue streak flying fast and low down the river, it’s always magical experience. One of my most memorable kingfisher experiences was waking up from an unplanned nap whilst fishing on a small brook one day to find one of the little blue and orange beauties perched on my rod only a few feet away from me. That memory will live with me forever and is responsible for me always looking and listening for them whenever I am walking along a river.
